Timm Tuesday! - The Spider

Continuing along the lines of Golden Age heroes, here is The Spider.  A millionaire playboy who dressed up in a black cape and a frightening costume to scare the criminals he fought...

...Wait a minute, he even had a villain called The Bat Man.  I smell a rat!

Anyway, no matter how inspirational he was, he's pretty obscure these days.  Nice to see some Timm work that shows of The Spider's vampiric appearance.

  1. Ultimately, all these guys trace back to Zorro.

    Rich guy: check.
    Secret Identity: check.
Fanciful Name (means "the fox"): check.
    Cape: check.
    Signature Weapon(s): check.
    Expert Training: check.
    Inspired by Family Tragedy: check.

Zorro even went one better than The Spider, The Shadow, and Batman: he had *two* secret identities. He pretended to be his cousin to keep his cousin's death a secret until he could avenge him.

    1. True enough. I think I always connect Batman to The Spider because his disguise includes vampire prosthetics, to really put the shits up the bad guys.
